Hannah Wilson
Hannah Wilson (born 1995, Milton Keynes, England, lives Glasgow, Scotland) creates psychologically charged paintings that typically depict flawed male characters from film. In their 2024 solo exhibition, Number One Fan, Wilson presented portraits of Rupert Pupkin (Robert DeNiro) and Jerry Langford (Jerry Lewis), both from King of Comedy, Martin Scorsese’s dark comedy from 1983. Wilson uses these characters to explore aspects of their own life and does so in a painterly language that is distinctively theirs. The paintings have highly textured surfaces and a simplicity of line, composition and color.
