Jonas Lund, “Strings Attached,” at Steve Turner Contemporary. The Amsterdam-based Lund likes to toy with the elements of the art market: the hype, the froth, the money-making apparatus. In the past, he has attached GPS tracking devices to his paintings to chart ownership of them. Now he’s created a series of text-based works whose very words limit aspects of ownership. For example, one work is emblazoned, “This painting may never be sold at auction.” Will it stand up in court? Who knows. But I’m sure it’ll look smashing over the Italian leather sofa.
