A NEW WORLD—WOMEN TO WATCH 2024

Friday, June 24, 2022 to Sunday, October 16, 2022

The Women to Watch exhibition series is a unique collaboration between the National Museum of Women Artists (NMWA) and its national and international committees. Each exhibition, held every few years, focuses on a specific medium or theme chosen by NMWA’s curators and features underrepresented, self-identifying women artists from each committee’s respective region. (Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art last participated in the series in 2019 with Paper Routes – Women to Watch 2020.)
This seventh installment of Women to Watch features five artists currently living and working within a 150-mile radius of Kansas City who envision a different world through their creative practice. Given the extraordinary events of 2020 including a global health pandemic, intense calls for social reform, and unprecedented political division, artists conjure and express visions of a new world.

This exhibition features works by:

Bianca Fields (American, born 1995),

Melanie Johnson (American, born 1978),

Bev Gegen (American, born 1937),

Sun Young Park  (South Korean, born 1990), and

Mona Cliff/HanukGahNé (Spotted Cloud) (Aaniiih, born 1977)

These artists will have the opportunity to be selected by curators from the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA), Washington, DC, for the national Women to Watch exhibition in 2024.

This exhibition is juried and curated by Erin Dziedzic, director of curatorial affairs at Kemper Museum and presented in cooperation with the Greater Kansas City Area Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
