When I visited Natalia Gonzalez Martin just before Christmas, I recognized some Polvorones, a traditional Spanish holiday cookie, nestled on her shelves alongside a well-thumbed copy of Ovid’s Metamorphosis, and books on Baroque painters and Renaissance mastersIt’s a bookshelf you might expect to find in the office of a museum conservator, but a quick scan of the clutter in the rest of the room, haphazardly wrapped paintings, and the remnants of instant ramen noodles in the trash can, situated me in the studio of a young artist.
