August 17 – September 21, 2013
Steve Turner Contemporary is pleased to present Marriage Material, a solo exhibition by New York-based artist Aaron Aujla in which the artist explores the values that he deems fundamental to effective interior design–the division of space and the amalgamation of utilitarian and sculptural ideals. The exhibition will feature two shelf sculptures that simultaneously preserve and occupy the space; abstract wall works made from cedar shingles and an installation dedicated to interior designer Victoria Hagan. In aiming to combine vanity with pragmatism, Aujla uses materials that are made for utilitarian function but which also have aesthetic value.
Aaron Aujla (born 1986, Victoria, British Columbia) earned a BA from the University of Western Ontario in 2007; had his first solo exhibition at Clearing, Brooklyn (2012) and will have his first European solo exhibition at Clearing, Brussels later this year. In 2013, his works have been in group exhibitions at Art Baja Tijuana; Galerie Art Concept, Paris; Clearing, Brussels; Brand New Gallery, Milan and Martos Gallery, New York. Marriage Material is Aujla’s first solo exhibition with Steve Turner.
