Rafaël Rozendaal: Selected Websites
May 25 – 26, 2017
Room 25

At LOOP 2017, Steve Turner will present a selection of websites by Dutch Brazilian Rafaël Rozendaal who is one of the first visual artists to sell websites as works of art. According to the contract that he developed and which is now widely used by other internet artists, collectors are obligated to host the website for the benefit of everyone who can access it online while still enjoying other privileges of ownership such as the right to transfer title or loan the work to exhibitions. Unlike traditional video which has a repetitive sequence, Rozendaal’s websites are ever-changing and they attract an audience of sixty million unique visits every year.

Rafaël Rozendaal (born 1980, Amsterdam) first rose to prominence over fifteen years ago posting his artistic websites online. He subsequently has created related lenticular paintings and room installations that incorporate websites. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Upstream Gallery, Amsterdam (2014); Postmasters Gallery, New York (2013 & 2015); Steve Turner, Los Angeles (2012, 2014, 2016) and the Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam (2017). In 2015, one of his websites was presented nightly on multiple screens in Times Square, New York. He lives and works everywhere.
